Which NISOD benefits does Galveston College use the most and how?
The International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence is a great professional development opportunity. This event gives attendees the opportunity to network with other community college professionals and includes a wide variety of sessions. The college also uses Innovation Abstracts as an inexpensive and efficient way to share new information with the whole college.

Galveston College Sees Tremendous Growth in Graduation Rate
Galveston College saw a significant increase in its three-year graduation rate from 2017 to 2019, according to data from the 2019 Texas Public Higher Education Almanac presented recently to the Galveston Community College District Board of Regents. Galveston College’s 2019 graduation rate, at 44 percent, is the fifth-highest among the state’s two-year colleges and an overall increase of 10 percent from the 2017 graduation rate of 34 percent.

Construction Underway for New Residences at Galveston College
Construction is underway at Galveston College for the Abe and Annie Seibel Foundation Student Residences, which include seven units designed to resemble the historical homes of Galveston, Texas. This is the second significant capital expansion grant from the Abe and Annie Seibel Foundation to Galveston College. Fewer than 10 years ago, Galveston College was given the means to build the Abe and Annie Seibel Foundation Wing, which allows students and the community to gather for civic events and evenings of powerful educational enrichment.

Galveston College Receives Approval to Offer Bachelor’s Degrees
Galveston College received approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges in December 2018 to expand its traditional community college mission to include the awarding of bachelor’s degrees. Approval to advance from a Level I associate degree-granting college to a Level II bachelor’s degree-granting institution was the final step in Galveston College’s yearlong journey to offer its first applied bachelor’s degree in 51 years of service to Galveston Island, the state of Texas, and the Gulf Coast region. The college launched a Bachelor of Applied Science in Healthcare Management program in fall 2019 with a full cohort of students and plans to expand in the future. A second degree program is currently in the planning stages.
