When did Edmonds Community College become a NISOD Member?
Edmonds Community College first became a NISOD member in 1992.

What NISOD benefits does Edmonds Community College use the most and how?
NISOD’s Webinar Series has been useful as a flexible form of faculty and staff development. Edmonds Community College has hosted a Regional Workshop on Emotional Intelligence, Student Efficacy, and the Growth Mindset, which drew enthusiastic participants from neighboring colleges and from as far away as California. Edmonds Community College faculty have also attended the NISOD International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence in Austin, Texas.

Interesting News Happening at Edmonds Community College

New Science, Engineering, and Technology Building and New Residence Hall
Edmonds Community College plans to meet the region’s increasing demand for highly-skilled employees who are trained in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) with the addition of a 70,000-square-foot building. The college broke ground for its new, state-of-the-art Science, Engineering, and Technology Building in fall 2018 and has an anticipated opening in spring 2020. It will be a regional hub for those who want to pursue STEM degrees and will house allied health and nursing, physics, chemistry, engineering, and math classrooms as well as labs and offices. It will be LEED Gold certified. The college is also opening a new residence hall in summer 2020.

New Faculty Teaching and Learning Center
In 2018, Edmonds Community College established a new Faculty Teaching and Learning Center (the TLC). The TLC works in partnership with the Faculty Professional Development Committee and other groups on campus to provide resources, support, and learning opportunities that inspire innovative teaching and promote equitable student success.

Guided Pathways Initiative
Edmonds Community College recently adopted 12 new Areas of Study to replace its former Programs of Study. A campus-wide online survey was conducted as well as interviews with students and in-class focus groups. The Edmonds Community College President’s Leadership Team approved the following: Arts and Communication, Culinary Arts and Hospitality, Environmental Science and Horticulture, Healthcare and Health Sciences, Information Technology, Math and Natural Sciences, Business and Finance, Engineering and Manufacturing, Exploratory, Human Services and Behavioral Health, Law and Government, and Social Sciences and Cultural Studies. The college is preparing to launch a new entry advising model, faculty advising model, and career and college success course to complement the 12 Areas of Study. The college’s Professional Development Task Force developed a Pathways Newsletter that will provide updates to campus.

Bachelor of Applied Science Degrees
Edmonds Community College currently offers one Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Child, Youth, and Family Studies. This new program provides advanced knowledge and skills for professional positions in educational settings for young children and social service programs for youth and families. The degree integrates Early Childhood Education and Social and Human Services in an interdisciplinary program that enhances career opportunities and benefits the wellbeing of children, youth, and families. The college is working on the approval process for its next BAS with plans to begin offering it in 2020.
