#NISODProfiles – Kreg Mebust
“I connect with my students beneath a philosophy of service learning. They invest their time and money with me, so it is my goal to provide a superior curriculum and a setting that mirrors the offices of allied design professions.”

How long have you been an educator?
I have been teaching for eight years.
What is your favorite part about being a community or technical college educator?
My favorite part about being a community college educator is the interaction I have with my students. They are ever so diverse, and I get the joy and honor to impart knowledge and guidance to them.
What is your best piece of advice for new or existing colleagues at community or technical colleges in your field?
My best advice: “Relish the unpredictable nature of students.”
How do you connect with your students?
I connect with my students beneath a philosophy of service learning. They invest their time and money with me, so it is my goal to provide a superior curriculum and a setting that mirrors the offices of allied design professions.
If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be and why?
If I could have dinner with anyone, I would have dinner with John Denver. I want to know the answer, first, to why he didn’t “top-off” the fuel tank on his airplane. Followed up, of course, with a discussion of his time with the Muppets.
Share a memorable teaching experience and explain why it was so impactful.
The most memorable teaching experiences I have had are when I broaden or stretch a student’s ability to see the world in a different light. It is my work that feeds my soul, and worth more than any paycheck in the bank.
Every month, NISOD profiles faculty and staff from our member colleges who are doing extraordinary work on their campuses. #NISODProfiles offer a direct connection to your colleagues from across the world who exemplify NISOD’s mission of improving teaching, learning, and leadership.
