Northern Essex became a NISOD Member in 1996. We have been a member for 22 years!

Why is Northern Essex Community College a NISOD Member?
NECC finds all aspects of its NISOD membership helpful in pursuing its educational mission.  The professional development opportunities available through membership, including research, publications, and attendance annually at NISOD’s conference by NECC personnel, help the college advance its effective practices.

What NISOD benefit(s) does Northern Essex Community College use the most and how?
The NISOD Excellence Awards help NECC recognize the great teaching and other educational contributions made by our employees each year. Highlighting this excellent work rewards, and therefore encourages, faculty and staff to improve their practice. Moreover, it provides public examples of great teaching for others to emulate. The award winners attend NISOD’s  conference each year and bring back additional learning and ideas to share with the college community.

Interesting News Happening at Northern Essex Community College 

OER Initiative Saves NECC Students Over $1 Million in Textbook Costs
Two Northern Essex Community College professionals are leading a statewide initiative that addresses the cost of college textbooks. Thanks to their efforts, community college students statewide saved $1.2 million this year, and NECC students have saved over $1 million in the past three years. The statewide initiative was selected as a finalist for the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Florida’s prestigious Bellwether Award.

NECC Announces Plans to Open Culinary Arts and Hospitality Center
Northern Essex is opening a Culinary Arts and Hospitality Center in downtown Haverhill, Massachusetts, a mill town with a thriving restaurant scene. The Center will be located in a soon-to-be-built building, and a coordinator of the college’s culinary and hospitality program was recently hired.

NECC currently offers an Associate of Science Degree in Business Management: Hospitality Option and is planning to offer a Culinary Arts Certificate program when the center opens in 2019.
