Growth Mindset: Growing the Minds of First-Year College Students
At the beginning of each semester or term, college campuses are overtaken by the excitement and curiosity of incoming freshmen students. They are excited, they are eager, and they are enthused. But do they know “how to college”? Do they have the proper mindset to be successful in our classrooms? This webinar shares tools and strategies instructors can use to help students develop a “growth mindset,” one that will catapult them into true college success.
Von McGriff is the Department Coordinator for College Success and First-Year Seminar at Polk State College. As a professor of Developmental Education and Firsta-Year Seminar, she has developed a love and calling to serve students that are unsure of their purpose in college. She also enjoys helping students become learners as they take advantage of the resources provided by her college’s academic career. Von McGriff has been teaching for 15 years, beginning her career as an elementary teacher, and also has previous experience as a high school teacher and counselor.
