Student Engagement in College: The Heartbeat of Student Success (Part One of Two)

This webinar is a two-part series that will challenge faculty and administration to examine their levels of engagement; how their values correlate to their success in academia; and how to collaborate and develop partnerships with faculty, staff, support services, and administration. By the end of these webinars, participants are able to apply methodological strategies to innovative teaching practices and implement new strategies that increase student and faculty engagement.

Part-one outlines key areas that align student engagement, theories, and methodology useful for increasing student success inside and outside of the classroom. Webinar participants discuss active learning techniques, GRIT, building rapport with students, principles of effective coaching and facilitation, providing emotional support, and how to keep things in perspective. The webinar facilitator explores how these areas are supported by Benjamin Bloom’s Taxonomy, John Dewey’s Learning Theory, and B.F. Skinner’s Operant Conditioning. The webinar facilitator has used these theories, among others, to enhance collaboration among faculty, help students overcome challenges while teaching them principles of success, create a learner-centered classroom with active and adaptive learning techniques, and increase learning by using her curriculum design theoretical experience.
