Student-centered Mindset: An Attribute of Teaching Excellence and Educational “Hotness”

This webinar is the second in a three-part series titled Elevating Your Educational “Hotness”: Achieving Teaching Excellence. Part one of the series discussed the faculty attribute of pedagogical expertise, and this webinar focuses on a student-centered mindset. The facilitators will share specific student-centered strategies and resources to assist faculty in their efforts to achieve teaching excellence or for those familiar with Rate My Professor, educational “hotness.” By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to: (1) Define what it means to have a student-centered mindset and (2) Identify student-centered teaching strategies to use in the learning environment.

Barbara Rodriguez serves as the Associate Vice President for Broward College’s Center for Teaching Excellence and Learning. She has 22 years of experience in higher education at community and state colleges in North Carolina and Florida. She started her career as a community college English Instructor and has served in administrative positions within Academic Affairs and Student Services.

Dr. Sharry Kimmel has over 17 years of teaching experience in higher education ranging from lower division education courses to graduate level courses. Dr. Kimmel has been the recipient of several awards and honors in the field of education. While at Broward College, she has been the recipient of The Schlesinger Endowed Teaching Chair Award, the Cleveland Clinic Endowed Teaching Chair Award, Student Life Adviser of the Year, Broward College Distinguished Alumni Award, Kappa Delta Pi Regional Counselor of the Year/Southeast U.S.A., and Professor of the Year.
